After discovering my work on Facebook through mutual friends, David reached out to me to create a portrait of his beloved pet Tank. David provided several reference photos, but one particular image was the perfect reference for the painting. The digital format of the picture allowed me to zoom in and capture even the most minor details of Tank's features. With this photo, additional images weren't necessary to achieve the desired level of detail and colour in the painting. Additionally, the photo was taken in natural daylight, accurately representing Tank's actual colour.
When creating head and shoulder portraits like this one, 9" x 12" is a popular size choice. This particular size offers ample space to capture fine details and intricacies of the subject, ultimately leading to a realistic interpretation. However, the outcome heavily relies on the reference photo provided. In this case, I was fortunate enough to have access to multiple images for additional detail and colour. Therefore, it's always best to provide a variety of reference photos and take the time to carefully select the final image, which will ensure the best possible outcome for the portrait.
An isolation coat was applied to the painting, followed by two varnish coats. Once dry, I then placed the artwork in the Grassmoor frame. This is a walnut coloured frame with inner detail. I framed the picture using acid-free products and attached felt pads to the back to protect the wall from damage. Additionally, the painting has a certificate of authenticity to ensure its legitimacy.
