Back in 2016, I had the pleasure of creating a beautiful portrait for a Boxer dog group on Facebook. They wanted to surprise one of their members who lives in the United States with a stunning painting of their beloved pet, Obie.
As I strive to create captivating and intricate acrylic paintings, using moulding paste can be very helpful. This involves applying the paste onto the canvas before applying the tonal background, which adds more texture and detail to my artwork and enhances its overall quality. I used this technique when creating Obie's portrait, giving the painting a stronger sense of structure and character.

The diligent and experienced photographer, Obie's mum, had provided me with a reference image of exceptional quality. The single, large digital image allowed me to zoom in and carefully capture all the intricate details, ensuring that the resulting painting of Obie was highly detailed and fully showcased the beloved dog's unique and handsome features.
After finishing the painting, I applied a coat of varnish. The Boxer dog painting was ordered without a frame, but I found a spare moulding in my studio and used it for the display image below. This provides a comparison of the painting's size and appearance when framed.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the acrylic painting of Obie the Boxer dog.
