This was the second portrait commissioned by a lady in the USA. She had two Dachshunds called Zekie and Samson. Zekie was the first portrait I completed back in 2014, which can be seen below. I was asked to create Samson's portrait early 2019. Sadly, Samson died in December of 2019, at the grand age of 19! I know they miss him terribly.

This was the favourite image chosen for the reference. The imbalance between natural light, on the left and artificial light on the right, created a challenge. Luckily, I was able to use other photos of Samson to ensure balance.

Zekie had recently died and the lady asked me to produce a pencil portrait of him.

Here is a comment the commissionee made upon seeing the finished portrait via my now defunct, Facebook art page....

" Oh Karen...you've made my day... My Zekie Boy looks amazing. You've captured him perfectly!...I love the little wispy hairs on his precious little head... Thank you so much for giving so much of yourself to create Zekie's masterpiece xx "

Placed above the spot where he used to sleep with his brother Samson, and the new girl Miss Molly.

Zekie took his journey all the way to the USA and here is the feedback from his Mum upon seeing it in the flesh for the first time....

" Oh Karen.... I am in tears... You have captured My Boy perfectly. You have done him proud. I am forever grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am truly overcome with emotion xx "
