Fawn Boxer dog in Coloured pencils

BuBu had recently passed away and the commissionee wanted a portrait of him, to gift her husband at Christmas. The best photo of BuBu had been taken indoors and the lighting was uneven. He also had his ears pulled back, so I super-imposed his ears from a second photo onto the reference image (seen below) to create a natural stance. I also tweaked his eyes so he was looking forward, straightened his mouth and balanced out the tones in his face, which could only be achieved by working from a collection of additional photos. Joanne also sent me some photos of a favourite park they used to walk BuBu, and this was used to create the background.

The boxer dog is my most requested dog breed over many years, so adapting this one was easy enough.

Framing:
I do not provide framing for my coloured pencil portraits simply due to the possibility of glass being damage in transit so the framing is done after receipt of the portrait by a local framer. Julia chose a white frame with a single white mount. This works well with portraits that offer high detail and vibrancy as the frame does not detract away from the portrait in any way. It also helps to create a space which draws the viewer's eye to the subject.
