Willow - Springer SpanielThis painting was booked as a surprise gift to Willow's Mum, Vicky from her husband for their wedding anniversary. A stunning composition chosen because Willow obviously loves playing with her ball! Such a beautiful photo.

THE FINAL PAINTING
CREATING THE PORTRAIT:
A grey wash was applied to the canvas before beginning the careful process of layering loose applications of colour to ensure perspectives are kept in check. A small amount of texture is added in with the colour tones of Willow's tennis ball to add interest. Once all the loose base layers have been applied I then begin defining the details.
The grass is the real challenge and is built up by applying light over dark and laying a wash over areas that I need to slightly blur out such as the background and the foreground. The fine detail is then applied with a thin rigger brush which allows me to place every single hair especially the tiny ones around the nose. I finish off with a few layers of a UV protection Satin Varnish to seal and protect.
This is the 22mm option of a paiting where the edges are also painted and can be hung on the wall without the need for framing which offers a more contemporary look. A 22mm painting can still be framed by a professional framer if preferred.
