White Boxer Dog Drawing | Coloured Pencils
' CARROT '
Portrait size: 10" x 12"
Completed: December 2023
In October 2023, my friend Jet asked me to create four coloured pencil portraits. One portrait was intended as a gift for Jet's friend, another for her mother, and the other two were portraits of her beloved Boxer dogs. I have known Jet for over three decades, and during this time, I have had the pleasure of creating pencil portraits of her dogs on several occasions. This particular portrait, features her own white Boxer dog called Carrot.
Jet requested that the collar be omitted from the drawing. However, to ensure that the final portrait accurately captures the subject's essential details, removing the collar may not be feasible in cases where it obscures such details. The removal of the collar can only be considered when additional photographs are available to enhance the overall detail of the subject.
Crafting a realistic depiction of a white-furred dog on white paper requires the careful application of different shades of grey to create contrast. Although this task appears intricate, the method is actually quite straightforward. Care must be taken to ensure the reference photo isn’t over-saturated. Overexposure can wash out the details, leading to the loss of fine nuances that contribute to the artwork’s realism.
Presented below are three time-lapse videos that illustrate the detailed process of how Carrot's pencil drawing was created. These videos showcase the progression of the drawing from its initial stages to nearing completion.
