Ernie the Shi Poo Acrylic Painting
Ernie is a little Shi Poo dog (Shih Tzu/Poodle) owned by my Auntie, and named after my Grandad, her Dad. He is very cute, with fluffy fur and does the sweetest party trick - sitting on his back legs with his feet in the air begging for a sip of tea or anything that's going really!
MEDIUM: Acrylics on board
See how Ernie's portrait came together
The first stages appear quite rough and loose as I lay down the important foundations for the layering process. Ensuring the markings are placed in the exact areas is the most important part of any portrait. Once this layer has been placed, I am then able to continue layering up to the final, highly detailed layers and finishing off with a couple of applications of UV satin varnish to aid protection for many years to come.
I had a spare 'ASHGATE' frame which I thought would be perfect for this portrait and ensured the colours of the background complimented both Ernie's tones and the frame. It really does suit such the subject and the simplistic background keeps all the focus on Ernie himself.
