Millie - Pointer dog pencil portrait
Millie is a rescue dog from the Chesterfield RSPCA branch and they wanted a portrait of their new addition to the family. Millie's new owners are not sure what cross breed she is, but suspects there is some pointer in there somewhere - she's very striking in her features and a lovely, high energy pup (18 months old). Millie was brought to me so I was able to capture some photographs myself and thought that this image would make the perfect portrait.

THE COMPLETED PORTRAIT
THE CREATION PROCESS
Having spent some time with Millie taking photographs of her, I was able to observe her character as well as her facial markings and tones of colour which certainly helped the process of the drawing. As part of the white fur was over exposed from the sun on the photograph, I ensured that these were toned down to balance the portrait out, I also decided to soften the neckline so that the hidden collar was eliminated as this added nothing to the final portrait.
We commissioned Karen to draw coloured pencil portraits of our three dogs. This was an especially difficult task for Karen as two of the dogs have died and we only had old snap-shots, (most of which were on 8mm film) for Karen to work from. She did an excellent job, capturing their likeness and personalities. It was a very emotional experience seeing our old, dear, faithful dogs again!!
Karen was able to take her own digital photos of our young dog, Millie, and was very patient with an excitable dog during the photo-shoot. The results are incredible and very much admired by all who see them.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Karen.
