Acrylic paintings Art Gallery
Vibrant, Textured, Bold, Fun!
Acrylics are a great medium for every subject matter. They are adaptable, giving the appearance of an oil painting with thick, soft brush strokes or highly detailed with fine brush strokes. They can be mixed with mediums, manipulated using brushes, palette knives and other tools to create a finish that is one of a kind.
I work with the GOLDEN heavy body range that offers excellent brilliance of colour, high levels of pigment strength, opacity and permanence. They are archival and lightfast, ensuring longevity in every painting. To create the fine level of detail I favour, I use boards from the Australian company 'Ampersand'. They allow me to build up my layers using a 'Wet in Wet' technique. Every small detail is applied, making each painting as individual as the subject. Acrylic paintings are treated with a UV Varnish and do not need to be framed behind glass.
If you are thinking about booking your own acrylic portrait with me, you can find out more on this page or request a no-obligation quote via my BOOKING FORM or simply E-mail me direct at: karenmberisfordart@gmail.com

Sizing samples
What size portrait would you like? Sizes start from 8" x 10" up to a 18" x 24" and images are provided below to give you a physical idea. Small portraits are only suitable for one subject, so if you require multiple subjects in your painting it is recommended that you choose a larger size. Let me know if you need any guidance on this.
There are two extra large sizes also available which are 24" x 36" and 18" x 36". Please get in touch to request a price as this will vary depending on the complexity of the painting.

What are the differences between the 3mm and the 22mm board?
The 3mm board is the standard board. Ideal for those who want their painting framed. The 22mm option is deeper meaning it can be hung with or without a frame. The edges can be left bare or painted. An original piece of art should always be framed by a professional to ensure it is secure and well protected using archival products. Framing is available in-house or for more complex framing, is sent away to a fine art guild professional. To view our mouldings/frame examples, you can find them on our FRAMING page.

CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE PHOTOGRAPH(S) OF YOUR SUBJECT
If you are looking to book a portrait with me, a good, clear reference photo is key. The best photos are of the subject in natural lighting so natural colouration shows through, avoid selecting photos taken with flash or taken indoors under artificial lighting as this can change natural colours and may add ugly shadows (may spoil a human portraiture) Selecting your favourite photo is the best option and this can be any type of pose, a head and shoulders or within a background (charged extra) ensure you can see fine detail in your photo when you zoom into it on your computer/tablet/phone as it is this detail that allows me to create the high realism in the final painting. Please ensure harnesses/blankets are removed from Horses when taking your reference photo if you do not want them in the painting, as it will not be possible to remove it during the painting process. If you would like a specific Wildlife portrait created, you can either provide me with your own photo or view a few of mine taken from my extensive digital reference library. Here are a few image ideas or if you need help taking a suitable photo, click the green link below these photos to view more help and advice.
IMPORTANT: Image Quality
If you can zoom into the image you have chosen on your computer/ipad/phone and the fine detail can be viewed easily, this makes an ideal portrait. A photo taken on the largest format using an SLR camera (Image 3) is ideal but digital cameras are good too. Camera phones can take great photos (Image 2) but tend to flatten detailing which can be challenging. If, when zooming in to your photo, the detail looks blurry (image 1) and turns into a block of pixels I probably won't be able to use this image. Please send a photo of your favourite image of your subject and I shall see what I can do or recommend.
REQUIRE FRAMING?
Framing is an optional extra that can be booked along side your commission allowing you to receive the full package which is delivered straight to your door ready to hang. You can take a look at my FRAMING page which offers a wide selection of mouldings in various colours and styles to suit your preference and the framing is completed in the studio ensuring your painting is safely and correctly framed for many years to come. My acrylic paintings are finished with a UV Satin or Gloss Varnish to help protect and extend the lifespan of each painting and do not need to be framed with glass.

If you would like to have your painting framed too, you can view all available mouldings by clicking the link below. There are also additional framing options of mountslips and name plaques which can be found on the same page.

SECURE YOUR ORDER WITH A 50% DEPOSIT
A 50% deposit is required before the start of the artwork which then secures your booking and the final balance is due upon completion and acceptance of the portrait before it is posted out. As I work between portraits, I can begin a commission straight away. Unless a completion date has been prearranged, I will always complete in the order that they were booked. Dependent on workload, I aim for completion within 6 weeks, however, larger and/or more complex portraits are likely to take longer. The varnishing process will require extra time to dry which may take upto a week extra. I will try and accommodate timescales wherever possible. I cannot always guarantee but will let you know if it is possible to complete in time.

Hi Karen, What can I say??? I’m speechless!!! The painting is everything I hoped it would be and more. We both really love it and you’ll be pleased to hear that once we managed to unwrap it there was no damage, the picture is now up and it looks fabulous!!! You have captured both boys magnificently and we will treasure it always. I am mesmerised by James’s blue eyes. I can feel them looking at me. My two boys together. Thank you so so much. You have done an amazing job and to have it before the 18th means the world to me. The prints are just perfect and I know I’ll parents will love them too. Thanks again!
