Enshrouded in the warm embrace of time, the Little Stair Tower of Warkworth Castle
stands as a testament of the past. Amidst its venerable stones, a solitary Jackdaw perches gracefully,
a silent sentinel to the tower’s whispered tales of yesteryear.
A captivating acrylic painting inspired by the lively antics of a weasel at Newbiggin by the Sea. This artwork captures the essence of the weasel, observed darting in and out of the rocks on the local beach, a scene beautifully immortalised through a series of photographs taken by my partner, John. One of these photographs served as the inspiration for this painting, bringing to life the dynamic energy of the weasel hunting in a less than natural habitat.

The beach at Newbiggin by the Sea is primarily composed of fine-grained sand, but as one approaches the cliffs, rocks and boulders mostly dominate, serving as a habitat for various wildlife, including weasels. The objective of this acrylic painting was to imbue each rock with visual interest, achieved through the use of texture, colour, and detail, and ensuring that the artwork reflects a broader narrative beyond the depiction of the weasel.
To infuse the artwork with authenticity, I strategically applied Golden's Coarse Pumice Gel to certain areas of the rocks. I also integrated small amounts of iridescent colours into sections of the painting, which is distinct when viewed from an angle but subtly concealed when observed directly. These techniques serves to enhance the visual interest of the artwork, imparting a delicate sparkle reminiscent of natural elements.
Each painting is a unique creation, made with lightfast materials to ensure longevity. This artwork includes a certificate of authenticity and an after care sheet. If you are interested in purchasing this piece, please contact me.
