Cindy was our old Labrador/Collie cross (who looked very much like an Alsatian with a Labby head) She was 16 when we lost her to old age and arthritis in her back legs in 2009. She was a big, soft dog who loved bed hopping at night and snuggling up, nearly pushing us out our bed at times, but a beautiful soul and she deserves her memorial portrait.
MEDIUM: Coloured Pencils
CREATING THE PORTRAIT:
Cindy was a very photogenic dog, she would allow me to put props on her such as sunglasses and even a dog chew hanging out her mouth (without eating it) simply for a humorous photo and so getting great photos of her was simple. Normally I struggle to pick the best reference photo - ensuring the colour balance is correct and the eye details are clear, but I actually struggled because I had so many good ones to choose from, in the end I chose this one as it summed her up perfectly....those gentle eyes, and a little droplet below her nose! The background was super imposed to create a basic background without taking the eye from Cindy herself.
